Also, you can declare Pei even while in riichi, so even a riichi nomi hand can instantly turn into a riichi tsumo rinshan peidora mangan.
>There are also cases where you can hold onto a Pei. It can be discarded, so with terrible hands it's possible to hold one of them as a safe tile candidate. Declaring Pei after a riichi can break ippatsu. However, one of the joys of sanma is to see your hand evolve with every draw, and even the slowest hands will turn into something respectable by endgame, so the basic approach should still be to declare Pei as soon as possible.
