BIG NEWS — U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, Tom Barrack, has officially confirmed that Russia has been sidelined from the negotiation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and the United States is assuming a leading role in resolving one of the key contentious issues between the two countries.
The U.S. has formally proposed managing the disputed 32-kilometer Zangezur transport corridor between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
As the ambassador stated during a press briefing, the U.S. has offered to lease the corridor to a private American logistics company for 100 years — an initiative aimed at breaking the current deadlock in the peace negotiations.
Moreover, it has become known that both Armenia and Azerbaijan are responding positively to the proposal and view the U.S.-led model as a potential compromise that can provide the necessary guarantees without infringing upon either side’s core interests.
