It's sure as fuck not Nasuverseshit of Megami Tensei buttfuckery, that's for sure.

Still requires a bit of fiddling around due to the fact that you literally have to make a hard-stop after Next and Royal 2, and go read novels 9 ~ 15 or their manga adaptation, completely ignoring the whole entirety of Try altogether, as well as any video games other than Royal duology, then move to novels 16 and further, ignoring whatever the fuck was happening in Revolution and Evolution-R. It's kind of a mess still, but, yeah, it's definitely not so downright fucked as whatever the fuck Nasuverse and MegaTen franchises force you to deal with.

That being said, despite Slayers PC-98 and Super Famicom's "THE Slayers" (BOTH games came out in the same year with just a couple months difference, and they're NOT same game, they are completely different experiences, with SF's release being the latter out of the two, so they had to differentiate by making the "THE" distinction in the title), they are NOT bad games at all, in their own right.

Slayers Wonderful is also a somewhat decent experience, though a bit stubby and weaksauce, do the team that worked on it having zero-to-none previous experience of dealing with 3D battle engines (it's like Thousand Arms on the field, and a badly implemented clone of Final Fantasy VII in battles).

Both Royal and Royal 2, on the other hand, are a mixture of point & click Visual Novels and several mini-games on the field, and a Tactical J-RPG during battles. Royal games are notoriously famous for the fact they have DESTRUCTIBILITY of environments on the battle maps. You can literally cast a Dragon Slave and BTFO the fuck out of buildings/forests/mountains, etc., with aftermath of it all being directly rendered on screen (scorched earth, craters, etc).

Aside from that, Lina and Naga also appeared as playable characters in DoTA (famous for it), Magical Battle Arena, and several other games (mostly Japanese gachashit of differing quality).
