It's because the game is actually worth playing, and it's a very long game. I paid the same price for SH2, and BG3 is a lot longer.

If the game has a satisfying amount of content, I would consider it substantial. FF7 had multiple discs, and so nobody complained when they finished it. SH2 is my example, because it has different endings, which is replay value.
