You don't understand. If a character has dark skin, they have to be a stand-in for Black people, even if their culture, way of speaking, or behavior is completely different. And no, no other races with dark complexions exist in our world. It’s either Black people or white people. To them even Nagatoro is a black person. Hell, pic related, an elf, is a black person as well. That's how it works.
