What are the benefits of that type of design?
Is it a sort of thermal signature shield for the barrel?
It seems a bit excessive to have it extend all the way and be closed in the bottom.
(If it is open in the bottom it will improve air circulation AND make maintenance easier AND the contraption to be lighter while still shielding the signature just as good)
