There's actually a weird thing about Kris Knight still being somewhat plausible.
Tenna says that he made a deal with "The Roaring Knight" while showing the sprite from the end of Chapter 2.
But we know Kris was the one that opened that Fountain. And in the Sword Route stuff, game Tenna states that he made a deal with Kris instead.

There's also been some weird symbolism around Kris and the Knight doing similar actions.
>Kris and the knight do similar poses (the point pose when acting vs the Knight's hall of swords attack pose, the back forward arms crossed pose when it first appears)
>In the Sword Route game, the Black Deer monster's whole thing is it mirrors Kris' movements till we press the button, then we control it as it comes to Kris to be hit
>The figure offscreen at the end of Chapter 4 that matches Kris putting their hand up and gently pushes them onwards is possibly the Knight
>The phone calls Kris THE MOMENT they start to waver and are about to run after Susie at the very end of Chapter 4 and reminds them of their promise
>Everything around the Knight talks about a "black knife" but the only one we ever see with a knife is Kris

I'm not dumb enough to say the thing we saw isn't the Knight, but I think it's still valid to predict that maybe Kris and the Knight are more than just working together. They seem almost spiritually linked. Like it always is "with" Kris in a sense.
