It's supposed to be boring, at least to some degree. Order (boring) and Chaos (crazy shit happening all the time) is the underlying theme of the series. It's also "Slice of life" fantasy where a big chunk of the book is basically just the main character doing their job of woodworking/engineering/farming etc. It's about as close to living in a fantasy world as a regular dude you're ever going to experience for better or worse IMO.
