Taxes were MUCH higher amongst the highest earners, like >90%. That meant after a certain threshold of earnings, everything beyond that would be taxed at 90%. That discouraged people (company owners, board members, etc) from hoarding wealth and voting for their own pay increases because they would barely get anything anyway. This meant more company profits would be given back to employees. There was also a lot more labour and union laws which meant workers and employees had a lot more say in how companies are run rather than a select few who now use that power to pilfer the company and its employees. If you take down barriers for the wealthy to take more wealth, they will do it. If you don't understand this, you are hopelessly lost.
