Well, there is him telling Dr. No to his face that he will kill him for killing his friend Quarrel and his colleague Dr. Strangways and a lot of other moments in his other two movies that follow that show that he's actually quite compassionate when it counts. But yeah in the other ones he's definitely a greaser.

It really speaks to how culturally irrelevant Craig is that despite being in the role for far longer than Connery/Moore/Brosnan combined, when people think of Bond they always think of those three and their movies. Hence that perception (which isn't really true of those three but moreso cultura perception always seeps into exaggeration sadly).
