it's not like there are very recent examples of games that should easily sell millions of copies with humongous marketing campaigns, and fanbases behind them releasing day one on steam along with consoles and flopping hard.
what you're talking about is a small factor. a lot of the normalfags who buy into whatever game currently has the most buzz or hype around it, are already going to be playing those games when they release anyway because they're normalfags who are going to be drooling over every new console hype cycle.
