That wasn't the Ukrainian Army but volunteer battalions like Azov, Aidar, Donbas etc. financed by Kolomoisky et al. later turned NatGuard. The actual Ukrainian Army had a desertion crisis, low morale, lied to their superiors and drew lots on who gets their limbs shot to simulate casualties.

Yeah reality is they lost Slavyansk to Strelkov before volunteers saved their butts XD The AFU wouldn't have been militarily able to take the casualties from storming Donetsk and Lugansk in 2014; what intervention by Wagner did was help but quasi political and to stop civilians from being sieged so hard.
