The issue is that American are so used to American Jingoism as a default that they don't even see it. The same way a surprising amount of them get upset or weirded out when you talk about an "American accent", because to their PoV, it's everyone else that has an accent.

Hollywood has coming on a century of movies that're essentially propoganda for the American military and for their role in WW2 and even Vietnam. Vietnam is known as the bad one, but I still can't think of a single movie that shows the Vietnamese perspective. The perspective is either absolute Jingoism "We're the heroes doing the heroic thing" or "There's some bad people here, but there's heroes too" and the overall message barely ever touches on "What the fuck was America even doing across the world in this country?" and instead becomes "The American soldiers had a bad time in Vietnam :("

Look at Pacific Rim, a movie set in the fucking Pacific Rim, where everyone else had to be a useless jobber so the Americans could save the day, because Americans need to tell stories about themselves being the best.

But nobody even blinks twice about this because telling Vietnam from the American perspective, or re-writing WW2 to be about American heroes saving the day is normal. Same with games like CoD, movies like Transformers or Independence Day, etcetcetc. But then Japan makes a series like Gate that celebrates their military too and the hand-writing about "Um, this is just jingoism!" "Um, this is military (fashist!?) propoganda!" gets to astronomical levels.
