The backlash would be that people spent money and in game resources on a unit based on her numbers. They feel scammed. The numbers don't work the way it's stated they do.
Fixing it is a huge pain in the ass for them because of how dots work in the game, they might have to change other characters which is way more work than they wanted to do.
The simplest solution is just make her OP, without fixing her mechanics, so people who pulled and invested in her don't have any regrets. I say this as someone who put 180 rocks into her.
