>been using a trackball mouse for years
>discover that it is possible to replace the nubs upon which the trackball sits/rolls
>see posts raving about how nice and smooth ceramic bearings are compared to the default synthetic ruby bearings
>trackball feels fine as is, but the rolling resistance is noticeable which makes small/slow movements annoying
>decide to try replacing my bearings
>immediately feels worse in every way, even rolling resistance is higher
>spin the ball a bunch to "break in" the new bearings
>feels better than it was, but still bad
I'm going to give it a week and if it doesn't get a lot better, I'm putting the original bearings back in.
The worst part is that I didn't even know trackball bearings could be "broken in." My originals were 5 years old, but because they're spheres, I imagine that if I don't reinstall them in EXACTLY the same positions (basically impossible) they'll feel like brand new synthetic ruby bearings instead of feeling like they did just before I started this whole process, because different points will be touching the trackball. I'm worried that it might be fucked either way.
