I wonder if this is because he is genuinely unable of creating anything that isn't regurgitated from somewhere else. Sometimes it feels like there are people who go their whole lives without having one original idea.

Very true! I feel like if he wants to copy shit he should copy from old western movies like Toriyama did. He needs to watch the matrix or some old sci fi. Too much of anime is copying other anima and that leads to the whole medium feeling incredibly samey. Toriyama was special because he was a fan of western media and put a Japanese spin on it. That's why his stuff feels super unique.
