A lot of the latter GA girls played complementary roles to the men (it was the era where mens pictures ruled). Maureen O'Hara is a great example of a fantastic complementary actress. But, both womens and mens pictures coexisted in the the first half of the GA. The girls who were the stars then got to play much better roles. They were often feisty, too.
