Well there is a difference between adding long combos that would not be that common and adding long combos that anybody can do easily first try always.
Thats a way more nuanced discussion though and also touches up on aspects like where the damage comes from and how often it happens.
As an example SF4 added a lot of hitstun to all jumpins so converting off a jump is way way easier than in 2, alpha or 3.

SF6 is kinda an extreme parody of it all in every regard. Combos are long AND easy AND start from everything which makes the game an utter clown show. It also makes the game BORING and repetitive.
These aspects need to be adjusted. You cant have all three of those in a game. Personally I think shorter combos would be the most elegant fix if you want to keep them easy. That way its less going through mundane motions and back to actual gameplay quickly.
Thats way more in the spirit of what SF originally was in 2 anyways.
