It seems like the hipster subculture has flamed out given the prices for fixies on CL these days. I see bikes that would have gone for $1000 during the height of the craze selling for $200-300.

During the most annoying phase of the trend all these cool local bike shops would get an old trash peugeot frame someone found in a ditch, bondo over the rust holes and powdercoat it and build it up as a fixie. Because the self-unscrewing french BB is really fun on a fixed gear. And hipster would pay $900 for it.
