What if Asgore isn't the envious one in chapter 5, but rather it's the flowers when DARK WORLD'd that make the mistake that all the affection and care he was giving them was because he loved THEM instead of him loving Toriel. So the entire chapter is about them kidnapping Asgore (like the prophecy implies with him being in asylum or whatever) and trying to get him to love them. The final battle has them destroying everything in their blaze of envy when they finally realize that he doesn't care about them like that

It would 1) show Asgore how bad he's being by not letting go and give him a reason to not fight Kris / the party (cause that would be kinda dumb lets be honest) and thus giving him a way to finally let go without it being a [bad thing] and 2) be a good contrast to how creepy and rapey Snowgrave is?
