It's a Japan thing, it's not company-related at all. Even in TV shows you'll have a character "die" or become "evil" and then end on a cliffhanger with a next episode preview two seconds after the cliffhanger not only showing the character alive but best friends with the cast.
The latest Sentai season of Gozyuger just did that two weeks ago where the entire world ended because the big bad won and then five seconds later you have the sixth ranger prancing around being buddies with the red ranger.
