this is just my own personal speculation but i think altmer were supposed to have the complexion of greeks or turks, in the old games they are generally brown/bronzed which fits the summerset climate, and then the whole golden hue thing got tacked on later to flesh out their lore
now they are defined as brown skinned, golden skinned or fair skinned depending on which wiki source and lore book you believe
i've always imagined them as fair skinned but browned and baked spray tan elves and that suites my headcanon for my meme elf just fine
