kinda but t-shirts were also associated with working men as well. it was seen as a bit degenerate to walk around in one if you weren't doing labor though. they became cool in the 50's though, a lot of that degenerate stuff was definitely seen as cool by the broader culture after the war. jeans became the most ubiquitous men's clothing item in existence because of bikers.

the world was in a little ice age until 1850. people also wore sleeved shirts and layers for protection from the sun and bugs. now bug populations are way lower and sunscreen is widely available. fashion has trended away from tons of layered clothes slowly over time mostly because of these factors. that and the whole cultural revolution stuff after ww2.

the global surface temperature average of the earth has only climbed 1*c since the invention of the thermometer. it's only increased a fraction of a degree in your lifetime. i'm not making a statement on if global warming is real or not but if you think the difference is perceptible -- you make it obvious you don't know anything about climate science. if you're going to tell people "trust the science bigot" i would at least expect you to know what the claim you're supporting even is.

And yes this has literally happened within recorded history, Roman Warm Period, medieval "Little Ice Age", etc.
