Will maintain that Legends 3 is a bummer, yes. ZX too.
I'd argue X was already pushing it with the last couple games to begin with. Axl pretty much only showed when the games had already become slop, but sure, aborted story arc is aborted story arc.

I think by the time of X7 the series had a little too much baggage to completely reinvent itself, which is kind of the issue with Megaman, in general. Capcom always pumps out like 3 identical games three years in a row and then struggles to meaningfully evolve the series in question.

If they make new Megaman I'd want them to do something completely different so yes, I think a new subseries would be nice. Battle Network is probably one of my favourite subseries just for how fundamentally different it was while still keeping a lot of the essence of what I liked about the (at the time) older games.
>I think we need more of that. Experiments to see what works and what doesn't, and then embrace what does while letting everything else become Command Mission side tangents. Y'know. EVOLVE.
Exactly. I don't hate Megaman, I just think making sequels for sequels' sake is retarded. That's how you get the worst games in the franchise, the uninspired "release of the year" kinda junk every series seems to always have at least one example of. This shit was synonymous with Megaman at some point. I have enough shitty underwhelming sequels in my life. No more.
While some of these subseries dying without a finale is sad, I'd rather they just have a good fresh idea first and just make a new modern iteration of Megaman rather than try and make a satisfying conclusion for shit from 20 years ago that is, at best, official fan fiction because the team and people involved will likely be largely different anyway.
