OP, I believe this answers what questions you have. It's all for attention. Sure, they are hurting inside, but the action of scarring themselves is purely for attention. It's a way to say "I'm hurting but I don't want to actually get help or ask for help so I'd rather make you look at my scars so you notice me." It's embarrassing, childish, pathetic, and exactly what women do.
You didn't even mention any femanon in specific and this woman goes out of her way to show that she cut herself and said she was underage, all for attention. There is no thought process behind their actions, they act purely for attention even at their own expense.
