"In my directive No. 48/39 about the introduction of the community schools and 79/39 about the removal of denominational schools, I asked you to ensure that the Church influence in our German educational system should be removed through the introduction of community schools and the dissolution of monastic and conventual schools. Several Gaus have reported to me that the necessary measures are already under way and partly are already completed. Most Gauleiters have not yet reported. I would like to draw your attention once again to the directives and ask you expressly to carry out the measures without question in the course of this year. It is urgently desired that by the end of the year no more denominational schools or monastic or conventual schools should exist. In many cases it should be possible to carry out these orders by the beginning of the second half of the school year 1939. Further, you should take all other possible steps to remove denominational influences from the German educational system. By the end of the year, no educational institutions should exist which are under [Church] denominational influence. Particularly, this includes orphanages, foster homes, boarding-houses and hostels. Only in those places where the Church authorities have an overwhelming proportion of the facilities, such as kindergartens, nursing homes, etc., and where the take-over cannot be effected because of the lack of other resources and the necessary personnel within a short time, should the process be stretched out over a longer period. But even here the purpose must be clear that in the shortest possible time no more educational institutions should be left in the hands of the Church or under denominational influence. We have no interest of seeing the situation maintained where even the smallest part of the German Youth remains subordinate to Church or denominational influence."
