It'll forever pain me that Shoukoku no Altair never got the recognition it deserved. Sure the first two volumes read like the most generic shonen ever, but then things kick in and it becomes easily one of the most interesting manga I've read. The author is a history nerd, she researched war tactics, medieval weapons, clothes, architecture etc, it makes the whole thing feel very genuine. And to top it all off the cast is filled with a hundred delicious men of all varities ready to satisfy any preference you may have. You can read the whole manga with your goggles on and have a blast. Sadly Mappa ruined any chance it had to become popular with one of the worst anime adaptations ever.
