I was playing forbidden memories the last memories mod which changes the style adds effect monsters and adds a tonne of newer cards in.
I was enjoying it until I realised something. I had cocoon of evolution, petit moth etc. and I was creating perfectly ultimate in a big combo which felt nice until I realised that having card specific fusions goes against the entire ethos of forbidden memories.
Yes it's sick to fuse zoa with metalmorph to get metal zoa, but in forbidden memories the whole skill of the game was memorising generic combos that got you to a big monster.
The best were when fusions made sense. A great monster is twin headed thunder dragon. 2800 attack. You need to fuse a dragon with a thunder that have 1600+ attack.
So whilst that is quite broad, it's not always doable so you could fuse cards together to make a high enough ATK combo piece to create twin headed thunder dragon.
Wacky fusions that make no sense are not as cool but add to the weird and psychotic vibe especially since most monsters back then were a bit weird looking.
FM was a very generic focused game and that is really cool, in LM having such specific combo lines feels to lame, its like when everything became archetypal instead of being generic but with intended synergies.
We have elemental typing on top of monster types on top of atk and def and all sorts of things to work with.
