How did it turn so bad that masculinity (just existing as a man) itself was turned into something controversial? Perhaps a biological (pic) explanation is more plausible than the usual chicken before eggs explanation. Black people aren't violent because they're poor, they're violent and poor because they're black people, and the same goes for men's weakness and oppression.
