1) The most egregious hanging plot threads at least addressed. (Axl/Lumine, what happened to Ciel, the Mother Elf is just out there somewhere fucking about, Legends 3)
2) A healthy balance of keeping the spirit and innovation. X7 was supposed to be a multiplayer action-adventure game in the vein of Devil May Cry, for example, not just a foray into 3D for 3D's sake.
3) A new subseries canon to the main timeline to continue building out the world, but far enough away from the C/X/Z plots that the "family feud" Light vs Wily legacy doesn't become overburdened.
In the manga (that Inafune himself said got the soul of the series so right that he considered the writer/artist an unofficial member of the team), it has a story about Duo coming back to Earth and Blues leaving with him. Maybe some kind of canon but distant side-story adapting that, along with actually taking an honest shot at 3D combat using some of their DMC talent. I'm open to other ideas, but MM largely fell to the wayside because it failed to evolve with gaming; it's been locked in stasis and they're afraid to touch it. The X, Zero, and Legends series were never originally canon; they were made canon after fans accepted their original and then they were grafted in and expanded upon.
I think we need more of that. Experiments to see what works and what doesn't, and then embrace what does while letting everything else become Command Mission side tangents. Y'know. EVOLVE.
