From the very start of the invasion Russia was using slat armor above the hatch. Ukraine was not using drones. Slat armor in the configuration they had it is ineffective against drones as we know them now. Only by accident is it really effective against grenades dropped from drones. Because there are much cheaper ways to defend against that. Like closing your hatch. Or a literal chainlink fence. Anything. The purpose of slat armor there is not to defend against drones.
