>- All this stories of the F35 being crap are nonsense coming from either market rivals or cheerleaders. It will become a dangerous weapon once they solve the problems.
I too believed that at one time. Inventive resourceful people can figure out how to turn a sow's ear into a silk purse. See the F-111. (the plane nobody wanted) and the F-15 which was originally designed exclusively as an air superiority fighter.
Unfortunately, the F-35 has baked in design contradictions. It's a Bradly IFV cubed. By the time they finish "fixing" the F-35, it won't be the F-35 anymore. It's the ultimate sunk cost fallacy.
The F-35 was a terrible design intended to "save money" by parts commonality between the three versions. The VSTOL version should have ;been a completely separate aircraft. The resulting design compromises ultimately cost much more than it saved.
I would not be surprised at all if the Russian expert was actually paid to shill for the F-35. They've thrown so much bribe money at every retired airforce Major and Colonel in Nato (hired as consultants).
>- Russia doesn't even stand a chance of competing with the USA/West for now. The best we can do is to make war with us not being worth it.
Russia has chosen different paths than the USA. America spends trillions on wunderwaffen planes. Russia spends decades perfecting integrated air defence. America spends trillions on aircraft carriers, Russia spends money on submarines. America spends trillions on gibs for invted third worlders, while allowing her 1970s vintage Minuteman Missiles to decay. Russia modernized her missiles and developed completely new systems like the Oreshnik and the hypersonics.
Which strategy will prevail? Only time will tell, but between Obama and Biden, the American military has largely been hollowed out. They are great at pinpoint attacks and very specific limited missions but they have no real depth.
