The easiest way to earn some exp in tutorial island was to do some quests. Normally, it wasn't as easy as asking an npc if they had any quests. NPCs in Nevermore were much like people, and they would only offer jobs if you looked up to the task or if you befriended them. To add another wrench to the mix, neither player or npc names were visible to the naked eye. They could be found in menus or quest journals but sometimes it was possible that the merchant or tavern owner you were chatting up was just another player stringing you along. On tutorial island things were a bit more simplified in order to get players used to the concept of having to interact with NPC like they would a person rather than program. "Welp, I guess I better get started. I wonder if the quests are still the same..." You say and stop mid sentence. Perhaps it would be best that you didn't make a habit of talking to yourself.

You spend the next few in game hours doing various odd tasks designed to show you some of the game's systems.

"Adventurer! Can you please help me gather my chickens? They've escaped the coop!"
"Greetings traveler! Might you be interested in learning how to fish? Catch a big enough one and I'll throw a lesson in cooking as well!"\
"Mr. Royal_20! I've got a delivery I need to make to the mayor's home but it's just too heavy for me to carry. Can you please take it in my stead?"
"Adventurer!"
"Traveler!"
"Royal_20!"

Yep...exactly the same as before. You say with bemused nostalgia. You wipe your brow and take a swig of some free beer that you got as a reward. You could only describe the taste of food and drink here as just as you expected something to taste. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good. There was always this hint of artificiality that seemed to put a barrier between your brain tricking itself into thinking you were eating the real thing. Perhaps it was a safety measure to prevent just that. It was kind of unnerving thinking about how long a person could get lost in the game if it was able to make the brain think it was actually eating or drinking.

You down the last of the alcohol and check your stats.

Royal_20
Level 4 Hero

Only one more level and you would be eligible for a new skill. Checking your exp, you think you can hit that with one or two more quests. Your eyes wander over to your affinity and your heart sinks.

Belt Affinity: 3%

3%? After all those quests? You were hoping for a bit more. Or perhaps there were other conditions you weren't meeting. Maybe you weren't meant to max it out before leaving the island. You give the belt a few taps but nothing seems to happen. No hints or anything. You sigh. I guess it's not gonna be as easy as I thought. You think. Closing your windows, you notice the local butcher making his way towards you.
