you already know that that was just a political or ideological move (if it wasn't just "roleplay")
the banks do not win too much by doing that given that Russians must be some of their best customers
they've just lost all the money that all those Russian oligarchs would usually put into them that will now seek other solutions
what happens now is an even larger skew between the "reserve" (well, even if the US elmininated any "reserve") and will just generate even more debt that couldn't be paid so even less guarantees provided to customers
not even excluding a secret cabal here, but just saying that from a business perspective, the banks-banks do not stand to win by betraying their customers, especially such "rich" customers (the resources in Russia are far from depleted!)
