There's no need for these media corporations to be funded or subsidized by the government, especially when a large part of the population does not support funding them and half of the population does not approve of the media they produce.
It's a nice idea and NPR and CBS have produced some important, tasteful, enjoyable media in their day, but they're both a shell of what they once were and it's not exactly an exaggeration to say they act as a propaganda wing of various interest groups. It's tough to say they produce "journalism" anymore.
Overall it's just the right move to defund them. Anyways if NPR and CBS are really worth their while, then listeners/supporters should have no problem donating and funding them in a private context. Good luck!
