Actually batteries have in fact improved a lot, the problem is that you're never going to see any of those used in these devices. Instead you'll get the tiny bitch baby batteries because they take up significantly less physical space and therefore companies can afford to keep their phones and tablets smaller. The Deck and Switch 1/2 use batteries that are gargantuan by comparison, but because those devices are being used to play video games they don't benefit from the increased capacity compared to a smart phone that connects to a cellular network for a few minutes at a time and occasionally streams youtube videos.
