If they're serous why would they stunt their performance? Baseball photographers used to rent out giant 1700mm lens for one stadium. Im sure nat geo photographers used a variable zoom lens for maybe walking around, but when hunting a specific subject, why wouldn't you use a 400mmf2.8 with a TC on it as an option? It's just better.

Quite the opposite, I'm a firm believer you use what suits your needs and purpose, if you want a 50mm lens to shoot birds with, go ahead.
