I'm guessing when decide to slide down stairs wearing full gear, it's going to get stuck and fall off not to mention you could accidently trip and fall and get some real damage on yourself.
It would be to cover the area the hostiles are as you quickly make your way down. Throwing yourself down some stairs isn't a good idea.
