Think of it as a leveling system
You get exp and get new levels and each levels gives you stuff
A battle pass usually have two tiers that you can level up at the same time
A free one and a premium one
The only way to get the stuff in the premium tier is by buying it
In some games the premium battle pass can be bought with the games premium currency and that pass gives enough currency to buy the next one but i doubt its going to be like that
The battle pass are usually monthly but they said the one in ba wasnt going to be that
