I finally watched episode 3, and people are delusional if they think it wasn't mellowed out. Like, I get it, they cut out half the dialogue for time, but if you cut out half the dialogue, inevitably you also cut out scenes such as Renako kicking Mai's shoulder and boldly saying "No, i don't want this", and many other moments. In the manga, there were at least 10 separate moments of her saying no, while in the anime there were at most 3 moments of resistance.
