Do we play the same game? Rover failed to save a single planet 20000 years, and in pure strength he is below sentinel resonator and requires help in basically every major fight. This time he even realized that he wasn't the correct person to deal with the problem at all.

If rover wasn't strong it would make no sense his place as a leader of humanity in the main battlefields against the threnodian (the fun place to be in a game). Even if he grinded to lvl 99, why would all those resonators in the battlefield and training every day not there? If rover surpasses all of them from lvl 1 in a few years than he is just as special, just slightly delayed. And if his specialness was just outside of his own strength then he is just a walking plot convenience to advance things, which is not much video gamey.
