It’s actually worse than it looks. It’s next to our gorgeous neo-classical museum here, with a few surrounding despondent apartment complexes; all of which are no higher than like 6 stories tall. The rest is park land, and 1-2 story buildings. The Obama center is like 200 feet tall and just towers over everything. You can see it from a long distance away. It juts out of the skyline like a sore thumb. When I first turned a corner on the bike path and it entreated my field of view, I genuinely thought it was some weird ass rock-climbing tower or something. Never before, nor since, have I felt such a repulsion to a building before. Most even go seemingly unnoticed, just background noise in a concrete jungle. But this behemoth is really very so hideous that you can’t miss it. Not for miles. Brutal.
