Can someone explain how DC can release flops and bombs for a decade with seemingly no negative effect on movie production or output? Why would Dungeons & Dragons be shelved forever while Superman has had a string of mediocre performances and still gets the greenlight?

It feels like we are in a "post success" world where movies get made out of habit and not based on any actual metric.
