You should start a new account so you end up matching with new players as well.
I dont think you should even care about pvp early on, i was like below top10 for like half a year, just push your campaign and you'll get there eventually when paypigs move on to the next game. Some paypigs arent even good at pushing hardmode and pushing campaign and hardmode is the fastest way to gain CP and sneak your way in top 10
