There aren't many advancements in game design out there, the things that are lacking in games is just polish mainly, because they take so long to build.

AI will help with that but the far more interesting aspect AI will help with is in the graphics. There are like 234230423 art styles that exist on paper that we've never seen in video games and AI will immediately let devs access them which will be really cool somewhere down the line.
