You can make it a nice little survival-ish shooter, mute your protagonist and give yourself dialogue options and all that, but you've still got writing that isn't anywhere up to the level of the previous games at the end of the day. Accept it as campy, toss some texture, lighting, and a whole lot of lore friendly weapon addons from the other Fallout games into the levelled lists and just enjoy it as a post-apocalyptic looter shooter - before you go back to playing the other Fallouts.
