I still don't understand what you are trying to say there anon. If there is some arbitrary cutoff for when their relationship stops being reflective of the transitional period between being teenagers and adults, I've yet to see it. They are still breaking through their personal barriers and dealing with their lives, relationships and the world around them changing as they are growing up. In particular, Ichikawa's fear of failiure is a driving force behind his entire character. It's what got him into the deep funk at the start of the series, it's what's been driving him away from Yamada for the longest time. The series is themed around his recovery, going as far as to theme chapters as patient cards.
I want to see him succeed in his struggle, gain self-worth and grow up into a well adjusted person, that is why it is genuinely heartening to see him try, interact with others and learn from them. I do not want the story to skip ahead to where he has magically solved all his problems off-screen, it's something the story itself makes fun of and for a good reason. There's still plenty of room left to see how Ichikawa and Yamada will be handling the challenges of growing up, how they will handle growing more intimate and what will choices they will ultimately make and I hope those will be shown, not implied.
