I'm glad we took a break from the fairies. The concept works well with Renko's abilities, it's somewhat 'symmetrical' with how Maribel's ability is described as working in Gensokyo. This is probably my favorite entry in a while, though, since the story is presented from Renko's perspective, I wouldn't use other characters' names until Renko knows them too. It creates a gap(getit?) between Renko's perspective and the narration.
The idea of Renko going around a night, spying Gensokyo's inhabitants is also one I really like. It's hard to explain why. I guess it's the intrigue of walking around town late at night, seeing a lit window and imagining what the person inside might be doing, except it's a 2hu and you actually get to see what they were doing.
It's funny to imagine Sanae thinking Renko was a hallucination from sleep deprivation.

Nice trips.
I feel like your writing are becoming exponentially longer as the story goes on. The original Alice story benefited a lot from its more concise structure.

>It was a real life Tsukumogami!
Since Renko hasn't seen that many youkai, would she be able to figure out that 2hu tsukumogami are the not just the objects they hold?
Renko has seen a "chimera" before, which is implied to be a nue. However, I guess it's believable that Renko wouldn't be able to identify Nue since she hides her true form.
Aaaand we're back to the fairies...
Would Maribel figure out where Renko is and try to reach her?
I think she would in a few hours after Renko's disappearance but, assuming Gensokyo time dilation can go both ways, it's fair to assume only a few hours have passed for Maribel.
