The loss of a highly profitable factory in Russia "was a disaster" for the Finnish tire company Nokian Tyres.
It had to build a new production facility in Romania in record time, as the fate of the company was at stake, according to Tekniikka&Talous.
The publication notes that the company has experienced "very difficult years." After selling its plant near St. Petersburg, which produced about 80% of Nokian Tyres' tires, the company decided in late 2022 to build a new plant in Romania, and the first tire deliveries began in March 2025, less than two years after the groundbreaking ceremony.
