xiv's progression is rote and deterministic which aids in its accessibility (crafted gear being pre-raid bis is pretty sweet) but also makes it exceptionally boring
you get your gear the same way every single patch and most of the weird alt gear things they do, while good, are also introduced in odd patches where they're not really relevant like anything you can get from chaotic or OC, everything is catchup gear and the only variance in your bis each tier is whether it's raid or augmented tome and that's decided by substats that you can't actually feel in gameplay
